Before we start I wanted to say I am back and I know I have been totally missing from the blog pretty much all year. I’ve been so bad about blogging this year which sucks because I really do love blogging.I am making it my goal that for the rest of the year and next year to post a blog post once a week maybe twice a week depending how things go. Also fall content will be making an appearance on here very soon.
I am so excited to be writing this post as this has been something I have been waiting a long time to happen. My bedroom got a make over and I am so happy about it. YES I am twenty four years old twenty five in December and I do actually live at home with my parents. That is my choice and what I want so I am perfectly happy about it. I do enjoy living at home my relationship with my parents is amazing so its always a good time. The only thing I did not enjoy about living at home was my bedroom. It was not cute it wasn’t something I was proud of or that I wanted to show off. I have lived in this house my whole life so we have never moved but my siblings and I did switch bedrooms.
I have two brothers one older one younger and when my older brother left for his freshmen year of college we switched bedrooms. The reason for that is because my bedroom I was in before the one I am in now was actually made to be a office when the house was built. My previous bedroom is the smallest room in the house so it felt like I was in a box. When my older brother left for college I got my younger brothers room my younger brother got my older brothers room and my older brother got my old small room. Since he was not home all the time because he was away at college. When I moved into my room now my dad painted it for me this was in maybe 2012 or 2013 so I chose the classic teal aqua mint blue that every girl at the time was painting there bedroom. I was actually influenced to paint my room that color by a friend and I did like it at the time but I eventually hated it. From we’ll say 2013 to September 2021 I lived in this blue room. I was not a fan of it at all. My dad wanted to start tearing out the last of the carpet in the house which was in the last three bedrooms and he decided to start with mine which prompted this bedroom make over. Now I did ask more than once for my room to be painted so my dad did not decide to do this on his own but I am so thankful that he finally did it because now my room is finally something I want to show off. Which is exactly why I wanted to write this post about my bedroom make over so lets go ahead and get into it.
Also I just realized I never really took pictures of my room before the make over so I don’t have a lot of what it looked like before but I can tell you it wasn’t good.
BEFORE THE MAKE OVER
PAINT COLOR
As you can see like I said my bedroom was blue. That classic blue that every teenage girl had. When I chose this color I did like it I just didn’t like it for long. I don’t have any pictures of how my room was over the years but I can tell that after I moved into this room I did try to go for the tropical PB teen look. It was ok it wasn’t my favorite but it wasn’t horrible. Then I tried to make a teal, yellow, and gray, theme which I did have and like for awhile. The last them I tried to do in this blue room was the teal, rose gold, light pink, gray theme. I made all these looks/themes work in my room for awhile but I just wasn’t really happy with any of them. In 2018 is when I started to really want a white bedroom with black and rust accents which is what I have now so I did have to wait awhile for it.
FURNITURE
Obviously my room even when it was blue was still livable it just wasn’t something I loved. You can see as well the three biggest pieces of furniture in my room my dresser, bookcase, and cabinet were dark blue. That is because they were given to us from I believe a neighbor that was moving a couple years ago. These pieces of furniture were made for a boys bedroom which is why they are so big and were dark blue. My bed was also given to us from some friends and I believe it actually was the top of a bunkbed. My desk is actually from my sister in law and it is a very nice desk which is why I decided to keep it and not do anything to it. I did keep the dresser, book case, and cabinet as well I just gave them a make over. My bed how ever I did get rid of and replaced with a new one that is much better.
FLOORING
I don’t actually have any pictures of my carpet but I can tell you it was absolutely disgusting. That carpet was over twenty years old so it was definitely time for it to go. It was filthy my first dachshund Mitzi who passed away in 2018 hurt her back when she was young she was able to walk perfectly fine until the last few years of her life which is when she started having accidents. I did always clean up when she had one but that carpet just stained so easily that it just stained no matter how good I cleaned it. Faith our dachshund now when potty training had a few accidents in my room as well so it was definitely time for the carpet to go and I’m so happy its gone.
DECOR
I actually didn’t have much decor in my room before I had two mirrors one above my desk and a full length one on my wall by my door. I had some books, my speaker, and candy station, on top my dresser. My TV isn’t really a decor item but its really the only thing displayed on top of my cabinet along with some of my jewelry. On my book case on the top I had my candle a few little figurings. On the shelfs I had some art supplies, books, my high school diploma and my camera. Over my bed I had a gray push pin board that I put pictures on and two paintings I did. Also above my bed I had string lights that I still have. On my desk I actually didn’t keep much on it but my laptop, iPad, a book, my bible. I didnt and still don’t have a ton of decor pieces.
AFTER THE MAKE OVER
PAINT COLOR
THE BLUE IS GONE. It is very exciting that the blue is gone it makes me so happy. I mentioned before that I wanted a white room but I didn’t want it to be a bright white paint. I did go with white but more of a off white color. This paint color is call December Starlight by Valspar and it is very very pretty I love it. I had picked maybe six different paint chips from Lowes I got home with them and picked the color within fifteen minutes. It was a very easy decision because I knew exactly what I wanted. I am so happy with my decision and love it more every time I am in my room.
FURNITURE
Like I said before my bookcase, dresser, and cabinet were dark blue previously so they obviously needed a make over. Which is exactly what I gave them. Painting all three pieces of furniture took me about four days to complete. I decided to paint the tops of all three pieces of furniture black and the rest white. I use Amy Howard chalk paint to paint all three pieces of furniture. We got the paint from Ace hardware and it was very easy to get the colors I wanted. I also ordered knew knobs off Amazon for my closet doors, dresser, and cabinet. I am very happy with how all three pieces turned out.
I got a new bed frame and I love it. The mattress I have is the same one I’ve had for a few years now but its a good mattress so I didn’t need a new one. I did get a new bed frame though and I found this one on Amazon. I chose this bedframe because it was black which is one of my accent colors and also because it has this criss cross pattern on the foot board and head board. the legs of my desk has the same criss cross pattern which is why I chose the bed frame so they would go together. I did keep the desk my sister in law gave me and I didn’t do anything to it so that was the only piece of furniture in my room that didn’t change or get a make over.
FLOORING
MY DISGUSTING CARPET HAS LEFT THE BUILDING. The carpet is gone and we are all very happy it is gone. My dad did pick the flooring I have in my room now I do believe it is hardwood but I am not one hundred percent sure. It is very pretty though and much much better than the carpet I had before. The color of the wood goes very nice with the paint color so I’m very happy with how it all turned out. I do have to sweep and swiffer my room every few days. Which I am perfectly fine with doing because again I’m just so happy the carpet is gone.
DECOR
Decor wise things did not change to much there were a few things I decied to get rid of and things I kept. On top of my book case I still have my candles and few figurings. In the bookcase top shelf I have a few books, my DSLR (that I was using for the picutres),a few books, a pink floral notebook, and a little hear shaped container that has my pop sockets in it, and my other camera lens. Middle shelf is my high school diploma, a jar that is shaped like an owl, and my Polaroid camera. Bottom shelf there is a little art supplies, two cook books I have, and a coffee cup I have that is actually Chip from Beauty and the Beast, and my iPhone 13 Pro box.
My dresser doesnt have a lot on top of it it still pretty much has the same things it did before. On top of my dresser is two book with my little speaker on top of them, my candy station, and my two little friends picture holders. I also keep my purse on top of my dresser that’s all that is on it its really not a lot.
My cabinet does not have a lot on top of it either I try to not put a lot on the top of it just because that’s where my TV is and I like to keep it clean. Even though I do not put display or have decor on top of my cabinet there is stuff inside like perfume, moisturizer, my hair brush, hair ties, sanitizer, and jewelry. I will not be showing you the inside since its not decor what I’m trying to say though is that anything that would end up on top of the cabinet is inside it. I do however have a small ring dish that I throw jewelry I don’t want to loose on top of the cabinet.
I still have the two mirrors the round one that goes above my desk and the full length one that goes on the wall by my door. I did get a new full length mirror from Target for $7 because the one I had before was white and I wanted a black one.
Over my bed I didn’t know what I wanted to do right away so I had to think about it a little bit. I did decide recently to do a small wall collage. I got six black 8×10 picture frames and six art prints from Etsy to go in them. I decided to do the collage instead of putting up my push pin board again because I wasn’t loving the board anymore. I do love this collage and I’m very happy about it. I am planning on putting the paintings I had up before back up I just don’t know if they are going over my bed again. My string lights how ever are back up and were put back up a few days after I was back in my room.
I am so happy with how my room make over turned out it is everything I wanted. Over the next few months I might add a few more decor pieces but for right now I am happy with it. My room is now a room I love to hang out in and I am excited to show off. I hope you enjoyed seeing my room make over.
